Best Performing Ad Banner Sizes on the Google Network

Posted by | Digital Strategy | No Comments

There are many sizes and standards of ad banners within the Google Network.  Some do outperform others.  Google likes to have the flexibility of having as much inventory of each ad banner size so they can maximize what they can display on any given page.  As a general rule, wider ad sizes tend to outperform taller ad sizes.  This is because wider ads a more reader-friendly. Wider ad sizes let readers read more text at a glance, avoiding having to skip a line and return to the left margin every few words.   This makes sense, right? If you have a finite ad banner budget,  you might want to keep to these 5 banner sizes. 1. The 336 x 280 Large Rectangle             2. The 300 x 250 Medium Rectangle           3. The 728 x 90 Leaderboard     4. The 300 x…

Spammers love to take advantage of vulnerabilities in web platforms.  Currently, we are providing a friendly heads up regarding a vulnerability associated with Joomla.  The most current version of Joomla is 3.6. If you are running an older version of Joomla, you should back up your site and database and update now. The most common abuse associated with this vulnerability is Search Engine Poisoning (SEP) attacks.  This is a blackhat SEO technique used by hackers to leverage your search engine rankings.  The hackers inject links and keywords to pornography, pharmaceutical and other unwanted third party sites.  If infected, it could be a time sensitive, expensive process to fix.  This is something that can be easily avoided by updating to the most recent version of Joomla.

Internet Speed Experiment When You Travel Abroad

Posted by | Digital Strategy | No Comments

As 2016 comes to an end, many of you will be traveling from your home country to go on vacation.  Are you going to try to stay disconnected and shut down all of your devices?  If so, good luck with that.  Those of you who plan to stay connected, try to pay attention to how your internet experience is in other countries.  Is access to WIFI easier or more difficult? Are the speeds and performance comparable to what you are used to?  This exercise is just for fun, but you may find it interesting to see how good you have it at home or if online life is better elsewhere. To participate in my silly experiment, you can test your internet performance at home, work and perhaps your favorite “third place” (like a Starbucks) by following these simple instructions: Download the free version of the SpeedTest app on your mobile…

Did I get your attention?  I am an Outsourced Chief Digital officer which means I provide digital strategies to companies who can not justify hiring a full time Chief Digital Officer.  I have to begin by saying that Google is one of the most influential forces in the digital space.  Overall, I am a fan of their contributions.  However, they continue to use their immense influence to dictate to strategists and developers the standards web sites must follow in order to continue to be ranked well organically in their search engine.  You do not have to follow their standards, but it is inferred if you do not that you will pay a price with how you are indexed. While Google does not make their algorithms or planned modifications to it public, it is widely believed that they are about to institute a new standard that will affect millions of mobile…
